HED p.e. ... re-scheduled, re-scheduled, cancelled! There have been a few performers scheduling dates in Boise and then cancelling. The Killers, Kathleen Madigan and now (hEd)P.e or hed(pE..) or however they're spelling it this week. What the hell's going on? I'm told dogs can sense an earthquake before it hits; maybe famous people have the same ability. Watch your Richter scales.

In tales from around the world comes the story of Live 8 (where, it's rumored, a reunited Pink Floyd will perform). Named after the G8 summit in Scotland (not the number of performers or number of performance locations), Live 8 happens on July 6 and is the brainchild of Bob Geldof and Bono. According to the Live 8 Web site ( this grand event includes "5 concerts, 100 artists, a million spectators, 2 billion viewers, and 1 message." And that message is that if the eight men who comprise G8, "double aid, drop debt and make trade laws fair" no child ever goes hungry again. What these socially conscious musicians are trying to do is admirable, yes. Stopping world hunger, poverty and the spread of AIDS are honorable goals. But considering the national debt for the United States alone is somewhere in the neighborhood of $7 trillion, Bono and Bob have got their work cut out for them.

Rumor has it that big changes are afoot for the Diggy Bass Room. All I know is that those changes include beer, peanut shells and boots. Stay tuned.

For something good for your soul, go celebrate Juneteenth at the Gene Harris Bandshell from 12-7 p.m. with music by UltraSound, Toga Bah African Drummers, Da Groove and Brokin Silence. If that isn't spiritually uplifting enough for you, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir performs choral masterworks, hymns, spirituals, folk songs and music from movies and musicals at 8 p.m. at the Taco Bellarena. Both events are on June 18.

Finally, Ted Nugent and Ani Difranco are coming to town in August. (No, not together. I just wanted to be the first person ever to put those names in the same sentence.)
