  • It's called the "skinny" repeal, the latest option in front of the U.S. Senate in GOP leadership's attempt to derail Obamacare. The "skinny" option, which would eliminate federal mandates and wipe out a tax on medical equipment, comes after the Senate has already nixed two previous efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act in as many days. The Washington Post reports that the skinny option is the equivalent of chopping off one leg of Obamacare, "leaving the stool lopsided."

  • When the Fire Ball carnival ride broke down at the Ohio State Fair Wednesday night, one rider was killed and seven others were injured. The ride swoops like a pendulum while also swinging in a circle, and video shows a section of it (with passengers) detaching from the main body. WCMH-TV in Columbus, Ohio reports that Ohio Governor John Kasich has ordered all rides at the state fair to be shut down until they're reinspected. The governor's office said the Fire Ball ride had been inspected several times before breaking down on Wednesday.

  • CNN reports that Amazon plans to make up to 50,000 job offers next week at ten fulfillment centers across the U.S. The company is dubbing Wednesday, Aug. 2, "Amazon Jobs Day." The job fairs will run from 8 a.m. to noon local time at Amazon centers in Baltimore, Maryland; Chattanooga, Tennessee; Etna, Ohio; Fall River, Massachusetts; Hebron, Kentucky; Kenosha, Wisconsin; Kent, Washington; Robbinsville, New Jersey; Romeoville, Illinois; and Whitestown, Indiana. Most of the new employees will work as packers, sorters or customer service representatives.

    oise Police are looking for the public's help in identifying a suspect in a July 22 bank robbery. The holdup took place at the U.S. Bank branch on the 7100 block of State Street. The suspect is described as a white male, 6 feet tall, about 200 pounds, and wearing a navy blue shirt and jeans. Police said the suspect was also wearing a distinctive ball cap with a logo of the Denver Nuggets basketball team on the front. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 343-COPS.

  • Boise River managers are quickly preparing for the Saturday, July 29 launch of the 2017 float season. Ada County officials announced late Wednesday that raft rentals in Barber Park and shuttle service in Ann Morrison Park would begin this weekend, the season's latest opening for floating on record.

  • Variety reports that voice actor June Foray died early today at the age of 99. You may not recognize Foray's face, but you sure would know her voice...or more accurately, her voices. Foray was the voice of Rocky the flying squirrel on the Bullwinkle cartoon show. She also voiced Natasha, the Russian rival to Bullwinkle and Rocky. Foray's other credits include being the voice of Granny on the Tweety Bird cartoons, Cindy Lou Who in How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Jane in George of the Jungle. Foray also was the demonic voice of the doll Talky Tin in a classic 1963 episode of The Twilight Zone.
