- John McGee's multiple mugshots.
“I’ve known John for over a decade and like many, recognize his unique talents and abilities,” said Rev. Bill Roscoe, CEO of the Boise Rescue Mission in prepared remarks, announcing the hire. McGee will replace Jason Billester at the Rescue Mission. Billester will serve in a new role at his church, according to the Tuesday morning announcement.
McGee confessed to drinking way too much June 19, 2011, and then taking a stranger's SUV and trailer, crashing the vehicle onto the front lawn of a residence. His blood-alcohol level measured nearly double the legal driving limit. When confronted at the scene, McGee reportedly made a series of bizarre statements to police, including that he was "on his way to the promised land" or perhaps was "driving to Jackpot, Nev." McGee cut a deal so that he would not spend any additional time behind bars (other than the few hours following his arrest).
In 2012, a female staffer at the Idaho Statehouse told investigators McGee propositioned her on Feb. 7 in his fourth-floor Statehouse office and again the following week, suggesting she perform oral sex. The staffer said McGee also grabbed her buttocks on another occasion. During a separate encounter, the staffer recalled McGee asking her to take her shirt off, and when she left the room, he was masturbating.
McGee resigned from the legislature where he had once been considered one of the future leaders of the Idaho GOP. Since then, he has served as chairman of the Downtown Caldwell Association and worked on Idaho Sen. Curtis McKenzie's unsuccessful campaign for a seat on the Idaho Supreme Court. Now, McGee will be a prominent figure at the Boise Rescue Mission, which owns and operates a number of Treasure Valley homeless shelters.
