The latter event will be attended by one of the most notorious figures in cycling history, Lance Armstrong, who will come to the City of Trees to ride with Boiseans and former teammate (and Gran Fondo Founder) George Hincapie.
"I'm excited to come to the ride," wrote Armstrong in a statement. "We aired THEMOVE at Gran Fondo Hincapie-Fort Worth, and it was a lot of fun to interact with the crowd there."
THEMOVE is one of two podcasts Armstrong hosts; the other is The Forward. Audio content is the latest chapter in Armstrong's long saga. He is one of the most recognizable names in the history of professional cycling, carving out huge wins in the 1990s and 2000s, including the Tour de France.
His story caught more attention when he was diagnosed with and overcame testicular cancer in the mid-1990s, but he made international headlines when he became the center of a doping scandal in professional cycling that resulted in the discovery of pervasive use of performing-enhancing substances (including by Hincapie) and Armstrong being stripped of seven Tour de France titles.
Now in its seventh year, the Gran Fondo brings together acclaimed cyclists and communities to raise money for local nonprofits. Proceeds from this year's event will go to the Idaho Interscholastic Cycling League.
