One of the perks of living in Idaho is access to the great outdoors. In Boise alone, there are dozens of parks with amenities from children's equipment to bocce courts, not to mention the Greenbelt and the Boise Foothills. The real action, though, is farther afield: hot springs, day hikes, skiing, rafting—you name it. On Wednesday, Sept. 19, one of the area's best launch pads for winter sports, the Idaho City Backcountry Yurt System, opens its reservations period for yurt stays starting on Wednesday, Nov. 21. Fees for each of the six yurts (round, permanent tents for upscale camping) are $115 per night, and they come fully stocked with essential amenities like beds, wood-burning stoves, kitchen appliances and outhouses—all patrons need to bring for themselves are sleeping bags and food to enjoy spectacular views and straight shots to skiing, snowshoeing and more.
