Idaho Shakespeare Festival Announces 2020 Lineup

Boise's only Shakespeare festival is ready for the coming year, with a fresh lineup to boot

What light through yonder window breaks? It is the east and the Idaho Shakespeare Festival's 2020 schedule is the sun.

This year's festival will open its 2020 season with the timeless Much Ado About Nothing, which the Bard wrote in the late 1500s. The play opens Friday, May 22, and runs through Sunday, June 21.

Next in line is Ain't Misbehavin', a Tony Award-winning production that follows the life and times of legendary jazz musician Thomas "Fats" Waller. The production runs from Friday, June 12, to Sunday, July 26.

The only other Bard-spun tale in the schedule is Henry V, which follows the twisting and turning story of royal power. Henry V runs from Sunday, June 28, to Sunday, Aug. 16.

Starting July 16, Emma, an adaptation of Jane Austen's classic novel, will grace the stage. In it, Emma Woodhouse's hijinks as a matchmaker both land her in trouble and bring her closer to her love interest, George Knightley. Its run ends Aug. 30.

The season ends with Anthony Schaeffer's Tony Award-winning play, Sleuth. In it, a writer of mysteries with a passion for games invites another game enthusiast, who also happens to be his wife's lover, to participate in a series of events that will leave the audience guessing where the game ends and reality begins. Sleuth runs Sept. 4-27.

This season will also feature performances of Emma and Sleuth. A full schedule with dates, ticket prices and descriptions is found at the Idaho Shakespeare Festival website.
