Two women are behind bars and hundreds of counterfeit charge cards have been seized in what Boise Police call one of the largest seizures of fraudulent material in the city's history.

Officers with the Boise Police Department's Organized Retail Crime Unit seized 424 counterfeit credit and/or gift cards when they arrested the two suspects. Officers said they also seized a significant amount of merchandise that was presumably waiting to be resold elsewhere.

"We've seen an increase in these cases involving people come from out of state, even out of the country, coming to Idaho to steal from our local stores using account numbers from unsuspecting credit card customers. This case shows just how aggressive these thieves are," said Ed Fritz, supervisor of the Boise Police Crime Prevention Unit.

Officers said the suspects were using the counterfeit cards to purchase goods and gift cards. Police were made aware of what local merchants said was suspicious activity on June 23. Further investigation on June 24 led to the arrest of the suspects at the Boise Airport.

28-year-old Brooke Ashley Darby and 23-year-old Charmaine Montgomery, both of Texas, are each charged with felony counts of burglary and fraudulent possession of a financial transaction card. Both women were scheduled for arraignment on Thursday.
