The Neurolux got very dreamy on Thursday night, with a lineup ranging from way-out-of-town to local.

The Montreal, Canada-based lo-fi outfit Homeshake hit Boise, bringing along New York rapper KeithCharles and local songsters Daddy Frank.

Peter Sagar, the man behind Homeshake, is the former guitarist for Mac Demarco. He departed from Demarco’s troupe a few years ago to focus full time on Homeshake.

Watching Sagar perform, his attitude and stage presence was relaxed and almost jovial. Sagar’s sound is modern and electric, but his influences from R&B are clear. His songs are interwoven with soul-influenced hooks and melodies.

Sagar recently released a set of remixes to his February album, Helium, and is touring around the northwest on that release.

KeithCharles, who is touring with Sagar, was a surprising but welcome addition to the show. What Homeshake offers in catchy melodies and hooks, KeithCharles offers in lyricism.

Rap has its roots in spoken word poetry, and KeithCharles performance embodies that history. He performs with a DJ, which keeps the focus on his performance, which he kept low-key, and the stripped-down simplicity of his time onstage was a breath of fresh air.

Daddy Frank's sound is similar to Homeshake, creating hazy, dreamy and guitar-driven lo-fi rock that bucked the trend
