Hate Crime is neither?

The apparent faking of a hate crime at Boise State has caused almost as much of a stir as if it were real. According to the Boise Police Department the victim confessed to using a stick and his own fists to self-inflict his injuries and report that he was assaulted because he is gay.

"It's pretty surprising," said James Rodriguez, a leader of Bisexuals, Gays, Lesbians, & Allies for Diversity (BGLAD) at Boise State. "Why would anybody make up something like that?"

BPD spokeswoman Lynn Hightower said the incident, if real, would be "extremely disturbing from all points of view."

Christian activist Bryan Fischer said the individual had "created a false impression" that Idahoans are biased against homosexuality.
