The end of the year may be a hectic time, but artists seeking funding should keep their eyes on the prize--or in this case, application deadlines. A few of the grants up for grabs from the Idaho Commission on the Arts include the following:
Fellowship awards in the sum $3,500 each are awarded by the ICA for artistic excellence in dance, music, theater, screenwriting, media installation, filmmaking and video. Applications are available on the ICA Web site, arts.idaho.gov, or at the ICA office at 2410 N. Old Penitentiary Road in Boise. Applications will be ranked by a panel of out-of-state judges. The application deadline is January 31.
Traditional and folk artist grants in the sum of up to $2,000 each are awarded to support partnerships in learning and teaching of an artistic tradition by a master and apprentice. The art form, such as song or dance, must represent a shared cultural tradition of both applicants and some of the funds awarded may be applied to travel, materials, and supplies. The application deadline is January 31.
Looking later into 2006 (October, to be exact), Boise will host the Northwest Booking Conference, an event where Idaho artists can showcase their talents and performing artists can be with performance venues, as well as taking advantage of opportunities for professional development. The application for the Northwest Booking Conference is March 6. Even further ahead, the application deadline is June 5 for performing artists interested in working with kids in schools to apply for inclusion in the Commission's online Idaho Arts Education Roster.
