Promising downloads of HD movies in 60 seconds or less, Cable One announced Thursday morning it will be bringing Gigabit service to households in Boise and Garden City in 2016. Cable One officials said the company's newest speed is 40-times faster than the average speed currently offered across the United States.
"This is the type of infrastructure investment that Boise's businesses need to compete in the modern economy and that our residents demand as technology becomes increasingly central to their daily lives," said Boise Mayor Dave Bieter in Thursday's announcement.
Cable One currently offers gigabit fiber optic service to businesses and, come the first of the year, will launch residential gigabit service to homes, enabling customers to "download 100 songs in four seconds, download a game in 29 seconds and download an HD movie in 60 seconds or less."
Prices and data plans are expected to be announced in January 2016.
