Feds: Boise Contractor Put Workers at Serious Risk of Injury, Death

Federal officials have again put a Boise contractor on notice for what they say was "putting workers at serious risk of injury and death in an unprotected underground trench." According to a statement from the U.S. Department of Labor, issued June 1, Titan Technologies had "violated safety rules three times in three years."

According to Monday's announcement from the Labor Department's Occupational Safety and Health division, Titan "put its workers at risk of serious and fatal injury while they marked a sewer line location on East 45th Street" in Boise. According to the DOL, Titan has been cited for the same safety violation, with previous violations at other work sites in 2012 and 2014. According to inspectors, they found employees working in trenches without cave-in protections, such as sloping, benching or other engineering controls. Titan faces proposed OSHA fines of $22,000 for repeated serious violations and $2,200 for new serious violations.

Titan Technologies has 15 days to appeal the proposed violations.
