Family Advocates is recruiting volunteer home visitors to support parents of new babies and share valuable information during the transition to parenthood. The first few years of a child's life are very critical, and parents play a vital role in promoting healthy growth and development. Because children don’t come with a user’s manual, parents are left to follow their instincts and might not have someone to turn to for advice. Home visitor training and materials will help you share information about infant development, health, safety, and community resources while sharing insights from your personal experience. Family Advocates looks for volunteers who have experience working with children and families, especially experienced mothers, grandmothers and couples, as well as students with education in related fields. Volunteers must complete an application, background check and 20 hours of training over a two-week period. Parents who elect to continue in the program receive a monthly visit in their homes. Volunteers may give 4-20 hours per month depending on their availability. A one-year commitment is asked to maintain consistency with the families visited. Volunteers are asked to attend at least three in-service opportunities per year after they complete the orientation training.
