With fire managers keeping one eye on satellite images of the region's dense forests and another eye on a forecast that calls for triple-digit temperatures in the coming week, firefighters are spending their second day battling a blaze near the Boise County community of Banks.
The wildfire broke out just before 5 p.m. Saturday near Idaho State Highway 55 and County Highway 17. Garden Valley firefighters are working alongside crews from the Boise National Forest and the Idaho City Hotshots.
The blaze, now known as the Banks Fire, is requiring three helicopters, an air tanker and two engines. Officials said an additional hand crew from the Salmon-Challis National Forest and the Sawtooth Hotshots are en route to assist the operation.
Weekend motorists are being cautioned to expect delays in the area.
