An eastern Idaho man is behind bars, charged with terrorism, after law enforcement officials said 24-year-old Matthew Burgett of Blackfoot is accused of making threats to the community at large and specific religious groups. Burgett is in the Bingham County jail, charged with six counts of unlawful possession of bombs or destructive devices and one felony count of a terrorist act, pusuant to Idaho Code Section 18-8103(4).
KIFI-TV reports a raid of the suspect's home revealed pipe bombs after Burgett's own mother tipped police, saying she found six explosive devices in the residence. Prosecutors said, if convicted, Burgett could face up to five years in prison for each of the weapons counts. The terrorism count carries a possible sentence of up to life in prison.
