Downtown Staple The Piper Pub & Grill to Close Saturday, Nov. 17

With his lease expiring at the end of November and his property management company showing off The Piper Pub and Grill's downtown location to a "corporatey-style restaurant," owner Gene Hutchison said he will close down his longstanding establishment.

"I decided to leave because I don't want to be out out on our ear in mid-November," he said.

In the meantime, he has planned a three-day bash from Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 15-17, to celebrate The Piper Pub's 30 years in business (Hutchison has owned the bar since 2008). Over the course of the weekend, he'll bring past bartenders and servers back to the restaurant for sales on booze, beer and food, with a particularly family friendly emphasis on Saturday.

Afterward, Hutchison said he will transfer his liquor license to the Capital City Event Center, which he owns, in the Adelmann Building.

"We'll let the vultures know the liquor license isn't for sale," he said.

Hutchison said The Piper Pub may be in its final days, but he has already begun to pursue a new food-and-beverage venture, either near Broadway Avenue in Boise or near Chinden Boulevard and 10 Mile Road in Meridian.
