First among them it the Boise Police Department, which has stepped up enforcement of existing Foothills regulations which include picking up dog poo and keeping dogs on leashes in trailhead areas (BW, News, "The (Dog) Shit Hits the Fan," May 7, 2008).
Amy Stahl, spokeswoman for Boise Parks and Recreation Department, said bike cops have started making more routine patrols in the Foothills area. Violators risk a $25 fine and $41.50 in court costs.
Second, Boise Trail DOG and the Idaho Humane Society are teaming up for a community poop scoop on May 31.
While it might not seem like the most appealing way to spend a Saturday afternoon, organizers said it's an effort to reduce conflicts with other users and keep trail access open to dogs.
Volunteers are asked to meet at the Foothills Learning Center in the Hull's Gulch Reserve at 9 a.m., pooper scooper in hand. Trash bags will be provide, and organizers promise to reward participants with drinks, snacks and raffle prizes.
