Iger, speaking at Disney's annual shareholder meeting, also announced that a spin-off from the franchise set for release in December 2016 will be called Rogue One.
Originaly, Rogue One was to be released this year, on December 18. As a result, the film topped moviegoers' lists of the most anticipated film of 2015.
The new Star Wars film, which will be the first produced by Walt Disney Co, is a reboot of George Lucas' sci-fi universe. Rogue One will be directed by Star Trek filmmaker J.J. Abrams.
