Dialogues: Music of the African and Spanish Diaspora

As part of the Global Expressions Series, Tomas Rodriguez collaborates with vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Hasan Bakr and Kevin Nathaniel Hylton, master of the mbira, a unique instrument from Zimbabwe. Together, they examine musical connections between the African and Spanish diasporas and their union in the musical landscape of the Americas. The program includes original instrumental compositions and songs for African instruments and percussion and Spanish guitar, as well as interpretations of works by African, African-American and Latin-American composers.
