Detox Dreams

A community detox center is a little closer to reality with sizable chunk of federal funding.

The detox center will be given $390,000 under a 2008 federal spending bill expected to be approved by President Bush. The money is part of a spending package aimed in large part at medical and education projects, and Sens. Larry Craig and Mike Simpson managed to get some Idaho pork included.

Among the other projects singled out for federal funding are upgraded technology for the College of Idaho library ($292,000), the Discovery Center of Idaho ($243,000), St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center ($243,000), new nursing equipment for Northwest Nazarene University ($438,000) and an expansion of the Children's Health Services division at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center ($487,000).
