Any other year, February in Idaho would be a time to huddle indoors, and ride out the freezing winter weather. Luckily for outdoor junkies, 2018 has brought sunny days and warm temperatures instead, and Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge is celebrating with a celestial bash. The family friendly Star Party highlights the wonders of the solar system with a dusk lecture, stargazing, and kid-friendly activities StarLab and an introduction to a live owl. Hikers can "tour the solar system" by walking along a trail dotted with scaled-down planets and stars accurately spaced to represent their orbits.
Finding the refuge Visitor Center can be a challenge so go to the Fish and Wildlife Service website for directions, and don't forget to bring your inner astronaut.
