Following a media firestorm this past spring, when the College of Western Idaho board of directors signed a purchase agreement for a parcel of land in Boise's West End, CWI officials announced Dec. 7 they had completed their due diligence on the property and would move forward with their purchase—but with a reduced price tag.
CWI directors in April signed a purchase agreement for the 10-acre land parcel near Main Street and Whitewater Boulevard for $8.8 million—but soon thereafter it was learned the parcel had been assessed at $3.6 million.
In July, CWI officials said their own appraisal valued the land at $8.975 million but they would undergo a due diligence on the pending sale.
“After reviewing all the factors associated with long-term development on the property, we believe it will be the best solution for a permanent Ada County Campus,” wrote Guy Hurlbutt, CWI board vice chairman in a prepared statement. “The property offers great access and the capacity to build a campus that meets the needs of our community, with the added potential to be a great anchor for Boise’s West End.”
