Soon enough, the Boise City-owned home, which was built in 1961, will be stripped and gutted and upgraded into what city officials say will be a "low cost/no cost" project that will introduce energy efficiency and sustainability to the neighborhood.
"Imagine people walking through the home, and we['ll] go from room to room showing them what we've done; but then we'll give neighbors a series of options on widows, insulation, you name it," said Steve Burgos, environment manager for the City of Boise. "Then, picture us showing them what happens the second that you turn on another set of lights or the dishwasher or an appliance. We're envisioning a demonstration that shows real-time impacts from the choices we make and the behavior that we continue."
