Craft Beer Week in Boise

American Craft Beer Week marks its fourth anniversary with a week-long, national event during the second week in May. If you've never heard of it, don't be dismayed. It's the first year this celebration of beer and food has hit Boise. The Brewer's Association that sponsors the event was established to represent the interests of small breweries throughout the United States. Locally, the Ram is the only member, but others are looking to join, and a number of venues have gotten together to host events. Matt Gelsthorpe, beer guy at Boise Co-op, has been working to coordinate things. Here's his scoop on American Craft Beer Week in Boise:

Monday, May 11—Old Chicago will feature specially priced, regional craft beer flights, all day and all night. That's just $2.50 for four samples of 4 ounces—a pint of craft brew at a great price.

Tuesday, May 12—The Ram hosts Mai Bock pint night and will offer brewery tours from 5-7 p.m.

Wednesday, May 13—Beer Valley Beer Dinner at Bittercreek, menu pending. Gelsthorpe's guess is five courses, $40-$50 per person, starting around 7 p.m. Call Bittercreek at 208-345-1813 for more information.

Thursday, May 14—Deschutes Beer Dinner at The Front Door. Featured beers include Red Chair IPA, 2009 Mirror Mirror and cask-conditioned Cinder Cone. Tickets are $45, and the organizers are planning four to five courses. For information call 208-287-9201.

Friday, May 15—Highlands Hollow Brewer's Night/Beer Dinner. Details to be determined. Call the Hollow at 208-343-6820.

Saturday, May 16—Breweriana Spring Show at Sockeye, a brewery collectibles show that should be interesting, noon-3 p.m.

Saturday, May 16—Hopnoxious Release Party at Sockeye. Hopnoxious is Sockeye's Imperial IPA and is quite tasty and dangerously drinkable. For more information, call 208-658-1533.

Sunday, May 17—Brewing Basics Tour and Tasting at TableRock. The brewers will lead groups through the brewing process from raw ingredients to a tasting of the finished product. To cover costs they will be charging $5 for the tasting, and for $15 they'll throw in a TableRock T-Shirt. Space is limited so please sign up by calling Tablerock at 208-342-0944.
