Concerts for Community
GameTime International is a local nonprofit that supports Idaho's other nonprofit organizations helping at-risk youth ages 7 and up. They developed "Bigger Than Me," a concert series that brings speakers and entertainers together to provide an "opportunity for all of us to become more civically engaged," explains Derek Boles, founder of GameTime. "After all, everyone listens to music."
The first concert in what they hope will be an ongoing series is titled "MLK Cultural Unity Celebration" and takes place on Friday, Jan. 16. Acts include versatile hip-hop artist Pyinfamous; poet, singer and songwriter Amir A.H. Jackson; lovely Mexican singer Claudia Castrejon; and Latino rock singer Edgar Guerrero. The group of entertainers reflects a range of diversity that GameTime hopes not only to promote but also attract. Entertainment director Jermaine Smith hopes kids from all walks of life and all socio-economic backgrounds will go to the concerts and be inspired to work hard and become mentors for others as well.
Friday, Jan. 16, at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m., $5 youth, $10 adults. The NNU Brandt Center, 623 Holly St., Nampa. For more information, call Jermaine Smith at 208-860-2203.
