Catch a Staged Reading of Boise Playwright's Haunted House Screenplay, 'The Hungry Ones,' at Rediscovered Books

by

In the annals of brilliant haunted house stories are The House on Haunted Hill, Insidious, Poltergeist, The Haunting of Hill House and the first film in the Alien franchise. Add to the honor roll The Hungry Ones, a short play cycle by Boise playwright Heidi Kraay.

The Hungry Ones opens with the arrival of a new girl, Joy, at a home for troubled girls built out of an upstate New York farmhouse. The residents see Joy as their ticket out, and use her to take over the home and kill everyone who resists; but there's a malevolence there that feeds on children and craves "sacrifice, possession and entrapment" standing between them and the door.

Based on a trio of skits from HomeGrown Theatre's The Horrific Puppet Affair, The Hungry Ones drips with psychological horror and intergenerational terror. Catch a staged reading of the screenplay, part of HomeGrown's BLiP series and directed by Amanda Baschnagel, at Rediscovered Books on Tuesday, Nov. 27, at 7:30 p.m.
