The Probably 29th Annual Braun Bros. Reunion happens Aug. 7-9 in Challis, Idaho. When asked how many years this event has been happening, organizer Muzzie Braun laughed and said, "Oh, I tell everybody something different. I usually just say over 20 and under 100." But, if memory serves him, he's pretty sure the first one they did was in 1979 or 1980. He said they haven't held it every year since but thinks they've been rocking consecutively for about 20.
During that time, several acts have played the show regularly, such as the Braun Bros. themselves and new acts have come along like Braun offspring Micky and the Motorcars and Reckless Kelly, steeping the reunion in tradition. Even Pinto Bennett will return to play this year, which Braun said is great not only for Idaho folks, but people who come from out of state and don't get to seem him play often.
Braun said it's been fun all these years, not just playing but seeing the old and new fans year after year. "My brother and I used to play for people whose grandkids are now coming out," he said.
The event kicks-off on Thursday, Aug. 7, at 8:30 p.m. with the street dance and music by the Original Braun Brothers and The Randy Rogers Band. Friday, Aug. 8, music starts at 6 p.m. with Kathleen Braun, George Devore, Robert Earl Keen and Reckless Kelly. On Saturday, things get hopping just after noon with Muzzie Braun, Headwaters, Doo Wah Riders, Pinto Bennett, The Randy Rogers Band, The Braun Family, Cross Canadian Ragweed and Micky and the Motorcars.
