As the Restaurant World Turns
It's open. It's closed. It's open. Downtown Boise's only Indian food restaurant has reopened after several weeks of locked doors and disconnected phone lines. Bombay Grill's original owner Rajinder Kumar reopened the restaurant last week after repossessing the business from its former owners, to whom Kumar sold the business last September. The restaurant's hours are now Monday through Saturday, 4-10 p.m. 928 W. Main St., phone pending.

Your Vote in a Glass
Last week, Food News reported on Franco Latino's clever—albeit perhaps slightly unscientific—presidential polling method. One drink, two names (the McCainapolitan or the Barackatini), imbibers order by candidate. The informal tally continues through Monday, Nov. 3, and BW will run an update every week. Last week, the Barackatini was ahead 17 to 4. This week's count has the Barackatini still leading 27 to 17. The jury is still out on whether that means Barack Obama actually has a majority support among Franco Latino's clientele or if it just means Democrats drink more, but the restaurant's management says people are going to the restaurant specifically to "vote." This could get interesting.
Cook It Up
Also happening at Franco Latino this month is a class from Chef Jon Mortimer in conjunction with Idaho Preferred month called Cooking Idaho's Bounty. The menu will feature toasted-pepper soup, lavender-marinated lamb skewers, trout roulade with potato cakes and apple cobbler. The class is Thursday, Sept. 25, 6 p.m. 775 S. Thursday, Sept. 25, Easy Cookin' hosts Minneapolis food writer Robin Asbell, who will teach a class on cooking whole grain Thai food.
