A Boise woman has been cited for inattentive driving, nearly 2 1/2 months after an collision critically injured a 5-year-old cyclist.
It was in the late afternoon on Sept. 23 when the 5-year-old was struck near the intersection of Kootenai and Owyhee streets. The child was dragged by a minivan nearly 40 feet before the driver stopped. The good news is the child is scheduled to return to his Boise home on Wednesday, Dec. 9 after recovering at a Salt Lake City hospital from life threatening injuries including a collapsed lung, broken pelvis and broken leg.
On Dec. 7, Boise police announced that Scholastique Twagirayesu, 41, of Boise, was cited for inattentive driving in connection with the accident. BPD said that following its investigation, officers sent their findings to the Boise prosecutor's office, which determined inattentive driving—a misdemeanor—was the appropriate charge. A conviction of inattentive driving is punishable by a fine of no more than $300, 90 days in jail or both.
