Boise state: Fiesta For Us
The boys in blue 'n' orange will play the University of Oklahoma Sooners in Arizona on New Year's Day. The official word came last Sunday. In fact, more than 5,000 fans were in Taco Bell Arena when the Broncos received the official Bowl Championship Series invitation.
For the 36th annual Fiesta Bowl, the Broncos will take on the Sooners, who won the Big 12 title with a 21-7 victory over Nebraska. The Broncos are kicking booty in the Western Athletic Conference, but the Sooners play serious ball in the big leagues. Dust off them David-and-Goliath puns! We're headed to Glendale!
Sampras to Boise
Hey, somebody tell Andre Agassi to quit building his hotel in Tamarack and stop by Boise on Friday. There's a little tennis match we'd like him to see.
That's because his old sparring partner, Pete Sampras, will headline the St. Luke's-Idaho Elks Rehabilitation Services tennis shootout this Friday, December 8, at Qwest Arena.
Here at BW, we think that Sampras and Agassi, who played some of their best tennis against one another, need a rematch. Sampras retired from the pro tour after his U.S. Open victory over Agassi in 2002. Sampras boasts 14 grand slam titles, including seven Wimbledon titles. He was ranked No. 1 in the world, for six consecutive years from 1993 to 1998.
But his Boise opponent isn't any slouch either: Robby Ginepri beat Andy Roddick and Taylor Dent to win the U.S. Open Series, and defeated Sampras last April in Houston, Texas, as part of the River Oaks International Championship.
