The latest financials at Boise City Hall indicate that some city departments are still on track to be over budget when it comes to spending tax dollars on overtime.
In May, Boise Weekly reported that the Boise Fire, Police, Information Technology and Finance and Administration departments were all exceeding their thresholds on overtime spending in the second quarter of Fiscal Year 2013.
Three months later, three of those same units—Finance and Administration, Information Technology and the Police Department—report that they're still burning a bit too much of the midnight oil.
The third quarter of FY 2013 concluded June 30, and the good news is that, overall, revenues and expenditures are following expected trends "with minor deviations," according to the latest report. General Fund revenues are at 63 percent of the budgeted amount while expenditures are at 67 percent.
But the Finance and Administration Department reported that its overtime expenses had already topped 233 percent. The third-quarter report indicated that the department's expenses were tied to "the external audit and Optimization contract."
Meanwhile, Information Technology reported that its overtime was at 109 percent of the budgeted amount.
And the Boise Police Department reported its overtime was at 93 percent. The department said overtime is historically highest in the summer.
