Boise may not be a big city, but we have our share of talented practitioners of the arts. And when one of these folks garners an award, we love to report on it.
Local writer Kerri Webster just won the University of Georgia Press's Contemporary Poetry Series competition for her recently published poetry collection, We Do Not Eat Our Hearts Alone. The Contemporary Poetry Series is one of the high honors awarded in the poetry field.
When she's not winning poetry awards, Webster teaches creative writing at Boise State and at the Log Cabin Literary Center. Other recent honors include a creative writing fellowship from the Idaho Commission on the Arts (awarded earlier this year) and the National Chapbook Fellowship from the Poetry Society of America in 2003 for her chapbook, Rowing Through Fog.
