The Boise City Council will consider some big ticket items when it gavels into session this Tuesday, Dec. 10.
The Council will be asked to fund a major acquisition when city staff recommend that lawmakers approve the purchase of the former Franklin Elementary School at the corner of Franklin Road and Orchard Street. Officials hope to use the space for additional park acreage in the city's Central Bench area.
The proposal calls for the city to pay the Boise Independent School District $395,000 for 3 acres of the school site, with closing set for sometime in January. City staff are estimating that the full development cost of the initial 3 acres would be approximately $765,000. The city would then have to option to purchase the property's remaining 4.74 acres for an additional $1.2 million.
Also on Tuesday's agenda is a proposed extension of the city's geothermal line to the site of the still-under-construction JUMP project and the adjacent Simplot Office Building, bounded by Front, Ninth, Myrtle and 11th streets.
Both JUMP and Simplot have agreed to fully fund the cost of the pipeline extension, which is expected to cost $411,500. Work would include extending 900 feet of 8-inch supply and collection lines on Eighth Street.
Boise Council will also be asked to forward federal funds, in the form of a grant, to Terry Reilly Health Services to help provide health care services to low- and moderate-income and homeless persons at its 23rd Street Boise Medical Clinic.
The $82,499 Community Development Block Grant, through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, is designed to help provide 3,600 patients with medical services on a sliding-scale fee based on family income. Homeless persons with incomes below poverty receive medical care at no cost.
