That may change though, thanks to an agreement between the city and a group calling itself Together Treasure Valley. A year-round off-leash area in Ann Morrison is in the works and if all goes as planned, pups will soon have their own island: The so-called "duck island" in the northwest corner of the park. The proposed facility is folded into the city master plan for Ann Morrison Park.
Together Treasure Valley was formed in 2016 by a group of 22 local private and public entities, including Albertsons, Boise State University, Colliers International, Gardner Company, Idaho Power and Regence BlueShield of Idaho, to "find and fund projects that will make the Treasure Valley a better place to live and work." That includes a donation of $50,000 to the City of Boise to help develop a new year-round off-leash dog park in Ann Morrison. In turn, the city would agree to name the facility the Together Treasure Valley Dog Island.
The idea has earned a thumbs up from the Parks and Recreation Commission, and Boise City Council will make a final decision on the project when it meets Tuesday, Feb. 27. See related PDF
