Before taking even one bite of turkey, tofurkey or turducken and falling into a tryptophan-induced coma, mark Dec. 5-6 on your calendar. On Friday, Dec. 5, the newly re-opened Bouquet hosts the annual New Year's Eve Practice Party, an event that's becoming as much of a tradition as avoiding the evils of Black Friday.
The New Year's Eve Practice Party—now in its third year—actually serves a greater purpose. Proceeds benefit Boise Community Radio, an Internet-based radio station that's long been working toward securing a spot on the terrestrial AM/FM dial. The Web casts cover a myriad of genres and include music created in Boise, the Treasure Valley, the Gem State and beyond. The party includes music from many a decade and features the sound stylings of The Universal, The Invasion, Nude Oil, Somebody Else's Band and the renowned DJ Art Hodge.
The party continues on Saturday, Dec. 6, with another BCR concert benefit at Visual Arts Collective. The night promises to be energetic and fun with music from Idaho's own Finn Riggins and The Very Most and Portland acts Super XX Man and Jared Mees and the Grown Children (listen to "Tallest Building in Hell" on their Myspace page).
It's a weekend with a good cause, and maybe you can dance off some of the lingering effects of homemade rolls with butter, stuffing and pumpkin pie.
