- The proposed 149-acre site in the Boise Foothills, north of Table Rock, for a single-family residence and private airstrip.
Boise City Councilwoman Maryanne Jordan took a look at the documents detailing the proposed construction of a private airstrip in the Boise Foothills, just north of Table Rock, and shook her head.
"I can't think of a more dangerous or disruptive use of the foothills," Jordan said Tuesday night before seconding a motion to recommend denial of the project.
The proposed user or users were not identified at the April 19 meeting of the Boise City Council, and no one stood to offer any public input, but Boise-based Briggs Engineering made the request on behalf of its client, which has plans for a single-family residence, airstrip and hangar on 149 acres about a quarter of a mile east of N. Alto Via Court and Table Rock Road.
Because the parcel sits just north of Boise city limits, the Ada County Commission will have the final say in the matter. Ada County officials, meanwhile, have asked for city input on the controversial project.
"I'm open to a lot of ideas, but never do I recall this much opposition from our departments," said Councilman TJ Thomson.
Boise Mayor Dave Bieter added, "I can appreciate the creativity—or perhaps I should say the audacity—of this request, but that doesn't make it a good idea."
With that, the council unanimously rejected the proposal, recommending Ada County commissioners shut down the idea.
