Bogus Basin's Terrain Park Opened Early This Year. Could The Rest of the Hill Be Open Before December?

Skiers and snowboarders are getting an early start to the snow season this year: On Nov. 9, Bogus Basin opened its terrain park to a fittingly cool welcome from people eager to hit the slopes.

"Because of the snow-making, there's a lot going on this year," said Bogus Basin Terrain Park Director and local pro snowboarder Corey McDonald. "I made a jump and a quarter pipe, and there are 10 rail and box features."

Located next to the bottom of the Deerpoint Express chairlift, the park can be accessed by the Explorer Surface lift, and will be open Fridays and Saturdays. Tickets are free for season pass holders and $15 per day for everyone else.

Bogus opened its pre-season hike park ahead of opening day for the first time in 2016. McDonald has been a part of the Bogus Basin family since 1997, and has been a primary contributor to building its terrain park. This year, he said, the technology that enabled the park to open early may be the path to the rest of the hill opening before the end of November.

“Snow making dependent, we’d like to open the whole park by Thanksgiving,” he said. “Fingers crossed.”
