Writing about Portland, Ore. electro-indie band Starfucker/STRFKR is a bittersweet experience. On the one hand, you get to write about a dancetastic band with killer tunes. On the other, the comment board inevitably fills ups with complaints about the band's name including the word "fuck" instead of what the article is really about, in this case, a sweet new track from the band's forthcoming album, Miracle Mile, which will be released on Polyvinyl Tuesday, Feb. 19.
The track "While I'm Alive" keeps up the band's trademark mid-tempo grooves and soft vocals, but ramps up the riffs and hooks in the synth department. The breakdown, which occurs just over two minutes into the track, is an especially funky back-and-forth between guitar and drums, with a spooky synth melody on top.
Not too shabby, lads. Now make with the rest of the album.
