Kickball for a Cause

OK, so the name might make a few guys wince, but it does get your attention.

The Kick Balls, Save Lives charity kickball tournament is a fundraiser designed to help an area family dealing with cancer, giving teams of 10 the chance to raise some money and revert to their childhoods on Saturday, Aug. 18, at Ann Morrison Park.

The event is being sponsored by Gameday Sports Leagues, which sets up adult rec leagues for such things as kickball and dodgeball. The company will donate 25 percent of the team entry fee to Kristi and Justin Davis—a local couple with two young children. Kristi has been battling cancer since 2006 and is now in hospice care, leaving the family in a tight financial spot.

Gameday will increase the donation to 50 percent of the entry fee for every team beyond the 10th team to sign up.

Cost to enter is $200 for each team of 10, which guarantees at least three games and a T-shirt for each player. Teams must have at least three men and three women each. Games will begin at 10 a.m., with the championship played at 8 p.m.

So why are we telling you about this now? Registration will close on Tuesday, Aug. 14.
