The 60th annual National Oldtime Fiddlers' Contest and Festival in Weiser wrapped up June 23. Boise Weekly was there to check out the hullabaloo in a town that picks up the pace every year for one of the biggest stringed-instrument jam sessions around.
Musicians from around the world—along with thousands of spectators from around the region—made the trek to the otherwise quiet town for some good ol' fashioned folk, country and bluegrass music. While fiddles were the focal point of the get-together, there were also some excellent riffs from talented guitar, mandolin, banjo and bass players.
The week's events included community-wide yard sales, a parade, street vendors, a battle of the bands, carnival, fundraisers, and, of course, the fiddle competition.
