Composer Jennifer Higdon at the Phil

Grammy-award winning composer Jennifer Higdon arrived in Boise this week to prepare for the Boise Philharmonic's performances of her Concerto for Orchestra.

During the Phil's Backstage with the Artist program today, Maestro Robert Franz said he was so moved by Higdon's piece, that he made a last-minute, executive decision and changed the order of this weekend's programs around. Instead of Higdon first, the Philharmonic will perform Dvorak's Ninth Symphony and then Higdon's Concerto.

Higdon then explained that audiences at tonight and tomorrow night's performances should listen closely the the eerie sound as the fourth movement of her Concerto moves into the fifth: she has the percussionists using bass bows on vibraphones.
