The calls for resignation are getting louder. U.S. Senators John McCain
and Norm Coleman
, Republicans of Arizona and Minnesota, respectively, have called on the Idaho Senator to resign.
We hear the White House is disappointed
But, Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter says he's standing by his pal.
Otter was asked about the incident, and Craig's explanation of it, this morning at a USO event.
"As a public servant who's made mistakes in my private life, I'm mindful that you don't really know who your friends are until you stumble," Otter said. "I want Larry and Suzanne to know that Lori and I stand by them."
Otter added that in the coming days, the Craigs would be subjected to "the intense glare of nationwide media scrutiny."
"I wish them and their family well and I urge everyone to give our senator a fair hearing," Otter said.
He added, "He is an honest man. I'm confident that Larry Craig will do what is best for him, his family, and the state of Idaho."
When asked if he thought Craig should resign, Otter said, "I'm not going there."
