Fraiser Fire Linked to Burning Cigarette


Fire investigators look for clues near scene of Fraiser Fire on Highway 17.

The Fraiser Fire, which scorched 266 acres near Highway 17 [Banks to Lowman Road] has been linked to a discarded burning cigarette.

Investigators said this morning that the fire, which was initially reported at 2:21 p.m. on Sunday, July 7, required more than 150 firefighters and threatened a nearby subdivision for the better part of three days.

Officials are seeking help in gathering information related to the person responsible for starting the blaze. Anyone who was travelling Highway 17 between Garden Valley and Banks on July 7 and has information is asked to contact investigators at 208-373-4195.

The blaze was declared fully contained July 9 at 6 p.m.
