Price on Their Heads: Portland Vandals Strike Mary, Joseph and Jesus

In a scene right out of a special Christmas episode of Dragnet, Portland, Ore. police are on the lookout for the stolen head of a statue of Joseph.

Police said crooks took the heads of the baby Jesus, Joseph and Mary from northeast Portland's Grotto Catholic sanctuary Nov. 29. The Grotto is the popular name of the the National Sanctuary of Our Sorrowful Mother, run by the Order of Friars Servants of Mary. Additionally, two small angels sustained damage. The statues are more than 100 years old and made from Cararra Italian marble.

The head belonging to Mary was discovered a short time later and a person staying at a Portland Travelodge motel found the baby Jesus head in a dumpster. The head of Joseph has still not been found.
