Bond Set at $125,000 For Man Charged in U of I Rape

Bond was set at $125,000 Tuesday in a Latah County arraignment for a former University of Idaho student, accused of raping a current U of I student on Oct. 6, during the university's homecoming weekend.

Jesse Vierstra, 20, of Twin Falls was arrested Oct. 7 after Moscow Police received a complaint from the parents of the alleged victim, saying she had been raped outside of the Sigma Chi fraternity house on the U of I campus. According to court records, Vierstra was a former pledge at Sigma Chi, but was kicked out of the fraternity in 2011.

Latah County Magistrate John Judge issued a no-contact order between Vierstra and the alleged victim.

Vierstra's preliminary hearing is set for Thursday, Oct. 18. He faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.
