Officials have reopened the Idaho City landing strip, indicating that the Trinity Ridge Fire has "moderated significantly." Though 83 firefighting personnel remain on the scene, the blaze is reportedly 70 percent contained after burning 146,832 acres and causing 14 injuries.
Fire officials said this morning that remaining uncontained areas were expected to continue to burn until significant precipitation is received. Helicopters will continue to be used to cool hot spots as needed. Meanwhile, previously burned areas are being used as fire breaks, making the further spread of the blaze past the areas less likely.
To date, the Trinity Ridge Fire has cost $40.5 million.
