Boise Man Sent to Prison For Illegally Possessing Semi-Automatic Handgun

A Boise man, already convicted of racketeering, was sentenced today for his guilty plea of illegally possessing a Ruger .45 semi-automatic pistol.

Chief U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill sentenced 63-year-old John Gable to 18 months behind bars, followed by three years of supervised release for unlawfully possessing a firearm. Boise Police discovered the pistol in January, when law enforcement responded to a verbal altercation at Gable's apartment complex.

After Gable's January 1993 conviction of racketeering, he was prohibited from possessing any firearms.

In 1991, Internal Revenue agents searched Gable's home and alleged that he had run an escort service as a front for prostitution.
