A spokesman for the State Controller's Office said a seatbelt saved the life of Donna Jones on Friday, when her vehicle rolled over and crashed on Interstate 84 near Rupert. Jones, 74, was in critical condition early Saturday at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, but by Saturday night she was reported to be "stable and responsive."
Jones, who served six terms in the Idaho House of Representatives before being elected state controller in 2006, was traveling alone in her vehicle, a Cadillac Escalade. She was transported to Minidoka Memorial Hospital and later airlifted to Saint Al's.
Idaho State Police said there was no obvious explanation for the cause of the crash.
