Idaho Unemployment Dips Further, to 8.4 Percent

More than 698,000 Idahoans were working in December, the largest total since March 2009, and enough to decrease Idaho's jobless rate to 8.4 percent, the fifth straight monthly drop.

According to the Idaho Department of Labor, the final three months of 2011 "posted the strongest year-over-year job growth" since 2007. December's unemployment decline also marked the fourth straight month that Idaho's rate has been below the national jobless rate, which also fell a tenth of a point in December to 8.5 percent.

Calculation of the county and city unemployment rates has been delayed because of this week's severe winter storm throughout the region.
