Officials with the J.R. Simplot Company confirmed that they will soon be shuttering processing plants in Caldwell, Nampa and Aberdeen. The food giant will then open a new, state-of-the-art potato processing plant in Caldwell (on the site of the current plant). The closures are expected to result in the loss of approximately 800 jobs. The new facility is expected to employ 250 workers. A startup date for the new plant is expected by spring of 2014.
Simplot's employees were notified of the closures this morning.
